Meet the Maker

Stephen Downes, the founder of Dawn Patrol is a passionate surfer and coffee lover.  Stephen’s life took an unexpected turn when he lost his arm to cancer. But rather than stepping back, he leaned into the things he loved most.

“Despite the challenges I've faced, my passion for surfing and love of coffee have never wavered.”

Driven by a deep connection to blue spaces, Stephen created Dawn Patrol, a brand inspired by the surfing term for those who rise early and catch the first waves of the day. It is a brand rooted in perseverance – and in reminding us that even in the face of adversity, we can still find joy in the things we love.
